No More Compromise Lyrics

I wake up every morning thinking, what’s my place in history
till I die the truth will only be an unsolved mystery
the judgment won’t be mine but will be based upon my actions
with my pictures, what words will describe me in the captions?

hardworking employee, a great friend and upright citizen
a good neighbor, loyal customer and fellow denizen
never rocked the boat, you never found him making waves
he did what was expected and he did it day-to-day
clocked in, gave his best until the time to clock out
early in the morning, never was the first to walk out
following career paths laid out by the ancients
eventually rewarded after years and tears of patience
bumped into a woman, all he needed was her love
and even though he knew the fit wasn’t snug as a glove
all he wanted was her happiness and he could be content
she could stay at home and he would pay the rent
poker night with the fellows after work every Thursday
ample drinks in the fridge for when they got thirsty
when the cell phones rang, it meant the ending of the night for them
and as they headed home, they would think about what might have been

who will cry when I die?

I gotta make a change, before they gotta make my tombstone
gotta lotta catching up, gotta lotta room for
improving and moving up, doing more before my youth is up
spread my energy universal ‘fore I use it up
so no more compromising with my life, it’s like a fresh start
plenty of time to make it right, and that’s the best part
gotta take a chance on my ideas, they may call me crazy
but not a single soul could ever say that I was lazy
no more taking orders from a person who is less than me
wasted too much time working for another’s ecstasy
who did not deserve a minute of my precious lifetime
I sacrifice my youth and they reward me with a high five
‘cuz time flies when you’re having fun, but even when you’re really not
your itty bitty clock is going ticky-tock

Compromise in my past,
time to shine, here at last

humanitarian, benefactor, and an activist
helped so many people in this world it was miraculous
made sure every child had an equal opportunity
felt like finding someone’s hidden talent was his duty,
he lived the life he loved and thus he loved the life he lived
found happiness within but how he shared it was his gift
not only through his money, more important through his mentorship
following your dream is all it took to get your membership
devoted to his friends and family, he had no enemies
traveled ‘round the world, there was no limit to his energies
one day he met a woman, independent one in every sense
a perfect fit, they clicked, in the mix ever since
poker night with the fellows after work every Thursday
ample drinks in the fridge for when they got thirsty
when the cell phones rang, it meant another opportunity
to do well while doing good for the world community
